Für Polizisten und Feuerwehrleute ist es ihre Pflicht, ihren Mitbürgern zu helfen, wenn sie in Not sind – egal ob es sich um Menschen oder Tiere handelt. Wir haben schon viele Geschichten von Rettungskräften gesehen, die hilfebedürftigen Tieren geholfen haben.
Das gilt besonders im Winter, wenn das eisige Wetter eine Gefahr darstellen kann.
Kürzlich saß ein kleiner Hund hilflos auf einer Eisscholle in eiskaltem Wasser fest, bis ein Team von Polizeibeamten ihn retten konnte.
Die Polizeibehörde von Wyandotte in Michigan sprach am Montag von einer „ziemlich süßen Rettung“, nachdem sich ein Labradoodle von seinem Besitzer losgerissen hatte und in den eiskalten Detroit River gesprungen war.
Glücklicherweise konnte sich der Hund aus dem eiskalten Wasser befreien und sich auf einen schwimmenden Eisbrocken retten. Allerdings fror der Hund erbärmlich, und die Eisscholle trieb vom Ufer weg, sodass die Rettungskräfte keine Sekunde verlieren durften.
Beamte der Polizei, des Tierschutzes und der örtlichen Feuerwehr trafen vor Ort ein, um dem gestrandeten Hund zu helfen.
Dem Rettungsteam gelang es, das Eis nahe an das Flussufer zu bringen. Dann konnte ein Mitglied der Feuerwehr den Hund mit einer Fangstange einfangen.
Aufgrund der Wetterbedingungen war es keine leichte Aufgabe: „Der Retter stand dabei auf einer rutschigen Leiter, die im Fluss stand, während seine Kollegen ihn mit einem Seil festhielten“, schrieb die WPD auf Facebook.
Trotz dieser Herausforderung gelang es dem Rettungsteam, den Hund in Sicherheit zu bringen, nachdem der Feuerwehrmann ihn die Leiter hinaufgetragen hatte.
„Wahrlich eine erstaunliche und großartige Rettung“, schrieb die WPD.
Nachdem sie das Rettungsvideo auf Facebook geteilt hatten, erhielten sie viel Lob und Anerkennung für ihren Mut.
„Großartige Arbeit der Beamten und der Feuerwehr“, heißt es in einem der ersten Kommentare. „Ich bin froh, dass der Welpe gerettet wurde und niemand verletzt wurde. Stay safe.“
Wyandotte PD's weekly review 227You gotta love it when the police ask the lone occupant in a car about the cold, open beer sitting next to him and he responds “how’d that get there?” This local guy ended up getting arrested for OWI and possession of cocaine after a brief investigation following a traffic stop. WPD is investigating a sexual assault in which the victim, a resident of a group home, is alleging that another resident is the offender. We are investigating a home invasion on the south side of town. The victim reports his PS5 and handgun as being stolen. He was not home at the time of the break in. On another OWI investigation a Southgate man stated that he had only drank two light beers prior to leaving the bar and driving. This is doubtful considering he blew a .16 at 4:30 in the morning. WPD was called to investigate a domestic violence situation in which the caller/victim reported the female half was the aggressor. When we determined there was sufficient evidence to support the victim’s claims, we tried to arrest the woman. She aggressively resisted the arrest. During the altercation she had to be pepper sprayed before she was able to safely be handcuffed and placed in a patrol car. Of course, she had to spit on two officers during this completely unnecessary ordeal. A 19 year old Dearborn Heights man decided to take off from WPD late Monday night after an Officer tried to stop him for speeding. The man quickly lost control of his vehicle and got into a single car accident, hitting a utility pole as he crossed into Ecorse. The man’s reason for taking off was that he didn’t want to get a speeding ticket. He didn’t, he got a felony charge instead! WPD is investigating a fraud case in which a local doctor’s personal bank account was hacked to the tune of more than 60 thousand dollars!WPD is investigating a bar fight that escalated into a couple of shots being fired. Several patrons and witnesses say that a Southgate man brandished and fired a gun after being involved in a fight outside of the establishment on Wednesday morning. We made an arrest of the suspect for several felonies and OWI after he was stopped after leaving the scene. WPD, animal control and WFD teamed up for a pretty sweet rescue Monday afternoon. A labradoodle had gotten away from its owner while on a walk and ended up jumping into the freezing cold Detroit River. The poor pooch somehow managed to climb onto a chunk of ice but it was drifting away in the river while the dog was freezing. Our team was able to move the ice close to the riverbank and our FD snagged the dog around its neck with a “catchpole”. The rescuer did this while standing on a slippery ladder that was submerged in the river while his coworkers held onto him via a rope. Truly an amazing and awesome rescue.
